Good Branding Makes Happy Clients

Pursuit of Happiness

How is someone made happy? Happiness is often considered a mental choice for a lot of people, but the truth, at least according to the scientists, is that happiness has a lot to do with memory. The ability to memorize objects, pictures, music, colours and smells is often associated with certain feelings. So if someone was experiencing an increased amount of dopamine while looking at a particular object, or *hint hint* a brand, then the person is likely to get little butterflies in their stomachs whenever they see those objects again. If this cycle is repeated then you will have someone feeling elated when in the presence of that object every time, all the time.

So the objective here is to try and associate your brand with a happy feeling felt by the client or customer, and then turning that feeling and brand experience into a positive memory.

Making a Brand Memorable

Identifying memory as the name of the game here is crucial. What can your brand do that will help it become memorized by the customer, and a positive memory at that? Firstly you need to offer some sort of temptation or tease. An example; you own a burger shop and you want to offer a promotion on a certain day. Why not tease potential customers into attending the promotion by putting up billboards promising them an unspecified freebie at the door?

Now here is the hard part; make sure that the event or customer interaction stands out. Surprise the customer or offer them a ‘limited edition’ item so that they identify with the fact that what they are receiving is not available to everyone, and that they are the ‘chosen ones’. Yes, a little like Neo from the Matrix.

Another important aspect of ‘brand happiness’ is that the experience, whatever it may be, ends with a bang. Not a bad bang, but a good bang, like those bangs that emit from party poppers after singing Happy Birthday. So include in your offered experience a gift or a parting gesture that tells your client “Goodbye now, but after today you’re never going to forget us”. If you use branding creatively to achieve the above mentioned effects then you will be promised happy customers who will be willing to return and tell others about their adventure.
